Rockers
1. How does the main character, Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, compare to the other main characters (Ivan Martin and Derrick Thompson) in the first two films we saw?
I really think that the only "hero" is Derrick, young guy determined to do the right thing -not only for him, the right thing for the country-. I could say that Darreck was doing a honest thing, not hurting anyone. That is why I think he is the only hero of the three movies. I really think that Ivan and Leroy are just selfish guys, they only care about themselves, and what they want to achive.
So, for me Leroy has nothing to do with Derrick, maybe with Ivan, but Ivan was not a good guy. I think that the three guys are different.
2. Did you like or dislike the film? Why/Why Not?
This is my second favourite film. Guett´a Life is the first one, but for me, I think that maybe, Rockers is the film that represent better the concept that everyone has of Jamaica. I mean, the music, the language, the way they talk and dress. Everything represent -for me- Jamaica. For example, every word ends up with "rasta". So I really love that, is a film that describe really well the evironment.
What I don´t like -and maybe is something that I don´t like of every film- is the woman role. Always behind, livin´ for the main character -a man-, always worried about the kids. I really hated that, they could use those roles to make the movie so much complex and fun, for example.
3. In conclusion to our Jamaican film unit, which was your favorite film of all 3? Why?
Like I said, my favourite one was Guett´a Life. I really love boxing films. Besides, I think that I connected with the movie, it kept my attention. Besides, it showed me a new face of Jamaica, a really politic one, with a broken society.
But, I have to mention that Rockers´s music was my favourite one, reggae just puts me in a cool and chill mood, and for that I say thank you to Rockers.

I agree with you about Ghett' A Life, it represents a broken society indeed, corrupt 'til the core, but Rockers has the best music among the three films, hands down.
ResponderBorrarI agree Rockers is the best movie in terms of fashion. I guess they did it really well because it was recorded in 1978, so they did not have to make much research in vintage clothing.
